How to use prepositions. When to use AT, IN, ON, BY, FOR ?
Using of preposition depends on what you would like to say. For example there, when you can say “at the meeting” if you refer to a place, but if you mean meeting as an event, you should say “in the meeting“.
AT:
used in relation to places, for example at home, at work, at school, at the station, at the airport, at the top, at the bottom
used in relation to time, for example at 5 o’clock, at 10:30 AM
used when saying at midday, at night, at middnight
IN:
used in relation to month, for example in August, in September etc.
used in relation to seasons in a year, for example in the spring, in the summer, in the autumn, in the winter
used in relation to years, for example in 2019, in 2022 etc.
used in relation to a time period, for example in 1 hour, in 5 days, in 4 weeks, in 3 months etc.
used when saying in the morning, in the afternoon, in the evening
ON:
used in relation to weekdays, for example on Monday, on Saturday etc.
used in relation to date, for example on 25th April, on 3rd October etc.
